“Poikilos” and “poikilia”, along with other terms belonging to the same lexical greek family, express variety, multiplicity and beauty. But they also express complexity, recklessness, ambiguity and cunning. Associated with the sphere of pleasure, wonder, charm (even erotic), or magic, the two terms are in contrast with the notions of unity, uniformity, linearity, simplicity, precision, harmony and even order and truth. Lisi, D. Micalella)
