Maieutics comes from the Ancient Greek μαιευτική (τέχνη + μαῖα) and it means “art of the midwife” (or “of the obstetrician”). This is how the Socratic method was de nominated, as reported by Plato. The dialectical art is compared by Socrates to a midwife with the idea of a philosopher representing an obstetrician, helping others to deliver the Truth. This method was an exercise of dialogue.
